Ear & Nose Piercings, Not Just Aesthetics

There’s more behind fashion statements, from hairstyles and clothes to tattoos and piercing. If we think about it, piercings nowadays are exactly like those crazy long hairstyles back in the 60’s. The older generations might not understand it, but we know what it stands for in our hearts. It’s much more than just a ring in our noses or ears.

A First Glance at the Piercing

One in four young adults has a piercing in other areas besides the earlobe. Ear and nose piercings are a way of self-expression and a boost in self-confidence.

Beth A. Kapes, a professional in communications and an award winning writer, states that as with any fashion statement or aesthetics, piercings are a form of art shared by people from all generations, mostly the “youngsters.”

The unique aspect of ear and nose piercings compared to other fashion statements is that people have been piercing their ears from the beginning of time. From primitive tribes to royalty, the practice is well-established as our ears have become another part of our body that we style and accessorize.

Health Benefits

Aside from aesthetics, nose or ear piercings can also enhance your physical health. Piercing your body resembles the practice of acupuncture. If you get some particular area of your body pierced, especially the left nostril, you will notice that some functions within the body regulate themselves.

Period Pain

Piercing your left nostril can help reduce menstrual symptoms such as cramps and nausea. If you don’t want to pierce your nose, getting a piercing in the rook (i.e., the cartilage area in the middle of the ear) has the same effects.

Migraines

Because it is a body area with more than 200 acupoints, piercing the ear has definite health benefits. For example, piercing the daith (i.e., the inner cartilage fold in the ear) is said to relieve headaches and migraines

Vitality as a Whole

The left nostril is quite the spot for relieving pain. Getting your left nostril pierced when you are run down can improve your mood and give you a boost of confidence. Maybe all you need is a change in your look.

A Parting Reminder

Nose and ear piercings are starting to play a big part in this world. Nowadays, it’s a normal thing to see someone on the street with a septum or ear piercing. Piercings and their message encourage even more young adults to get one.
